Last year, Daniel left X-Games with 2 gold medals in snowmobile freestyle and best trick. He is one of the most respected athletes in the sport and one of the few that is able to hang it out on a sled and bike. He was injured in practice leading up to X-Games Saturday January 14 and sustained multiple fractures in his neck. Fortunately, the injuries have not damaged the spinal cord and Daniel says that he will be able to come back to a full recovery and be stronger than ever before.
The level that all freestyle sports are at today is absolutely unbelievable. The effort and hard work put into training to be able to compete with the best is far beyond the understanding of any ordinary person. Daniel was going out to reclaim his gold medals. You see double back flips, tsunami flips, double grab flips and start to think that these are regular. Unfortunately, there is no room for mistakes in freestyle sled or FMX. You have to be precise every single jump or you will pay the price. That’s how gnarly these sports are and the danger factor starts to get overlooked by the average spectator. Everyone see’s you at the event, but no one see’s the hundreds of ours of practice that all comes down to one big mind game of freestyle sports.
Daniel is a champion and we wish him the best during his recovery. When champions come back, they are know to come back even stronger. It is no secret, that Daniel is one of the hardest working and toughest dudes in the sport. You can post him your wishes and give him a smile at his FB fan page here.
